OPINION: ‘Respect nature and leave the monkeys alone’

If you see a pretty little flower somewhere, admire its beauty, don't pluck it. If an animal crosses your path, don't hurt it.

Editor:

Spring is one of the most amazing seasons of the year. Firstly, because my flowers bloom beautifully and secondly, because it’s welcoming weather for animals, especially the monkeys.

Although many people would call them a nuisance, I for one can’t get enough of them! I could watch groups of them playing in my garden all day. I also noticed that this season is baby season.

This weekend I counted eight female monkeys all with babies. How precious! It’s also makes for such a beautiful sight.

With all the excitement going on, I noticed someone passing by my driveway gate and throwing stones at a few which were playing on the side of the road.

If you don’t like them, surely you can just make some noise to chase them off.

Why throw things at them that could end up hurting them?

I always hear and read such horrid stories of people shooting monkeys in their yards because they’re a nuisance. Stop hurting them!

Shout if you must but don’t hurt. Let’s all try to be a little nicer to nature.

If you see a pretty little flower somewhere, admire its beauty, don’t pluck it. If an animal crosses your path, don’t hurt it.

Rather just ignore their presence because they’re probably more threatened by you than you are by them.

We should try to be one with nature and not against it.
