OPINION: ‘Stop supporting bogus car guards’

The more you give to these men, the more it encourages them to stay in this town as they are receiving an income - it’s as simple as that.

DEAR Editor:

I don’t know when the issue of the ‘bogus car guards’ will end.

For a very long time now, Scott Street has been dealing with fake car guards who on a daily basis, harass people for money.

There is a way to get rid of them and it has been mentioned by many authorities before, but no one seems to be listening.

Stop giving them money.

The more you give to these men, the more it encourages them to stay in this town as they are receiving an income – it’s as simple as that.

There have been so many articles about this, but it’s just ignored.

Don’t complain about the harassment if you’re not doing your part to stop it.

I have seen a few elderly people giving to these bogus car guards, but I sometimes wonder if they are giving money because they feel sorry for them or is it because they’re afraid of what might happen if they don’t give?

Police have tried chasing them away on many occasions, but once officers leave town, they’re back.

I really hope that someone can come up with a permanent solution.
