Five WTH moments of the week

Ever scrolled past a post on social media and gone ‘what the hell!’ and sat there dumbfounded? SHONA AYLWARD shares her list of world-gone-mad moments from the past week.

Number 1

‘A man who doesn’t beat his wife isn’t a man’

This video of Algerian women saying it is ok to be beaten, shocks the hell out of me.

A quote by someone in this video (below) says: I want to leave this planet.

There are days when I feel the same.

Even more shocking is that these men and women think its fine to beat or be beaten.

I still can’t believe we are hearing about this kind of abuse in the year 2017.

Then there is a TV show showcasing a ‘Makeup Tutorial to Cover Domestic Abuse’  As the TV show thought the best way to deal with domestic violence was … makeup.

I’m speechless. Hello, women domestic violence is not OK and it should NEVER happen in the first place, but is a sad reality for many.

Number 2:

Most tampons have carcinogens in them, according to a new study

Very disturbing news is that a new study reveals that tampons have carcinogens in them.

The definition of carcinogens is: a substance capable of causing cancer in living tissue.

“The amount of dioxin in tampons is low today in comparison to when manufacturers used different bleaching methods,” says Philip Tierno, a professor of microbiology and pathology at New York University. “But it’s still present, and its effect is cumulative,” said Professor Tierno in a Time article.

And personally I don’t think the manufacturers care one little bit.

A thirsty snake is given water

A story like this just makes you sit up and say: ‘Gee whiz, there are still kind-hearted humans left in this world!’

Good on these men for sharing their previous water with a highly venomous cobra.

The World’s Most Extreme Escape Artist owns 220 antique torture devices

Is this weird or what?

Author, historian and glutton-for-punishment Steve Santini, from Owen Sound, Ontario in Canada, owns 220 antique torture instruments including some British thumbscrews from the 17th century.

The Mr Santini worked for many years as an escape artist, during which Ripley’s Believe it or Not! awarded him the title ofThe World’s Most Extreme Escape Artist.

There are various devices to crush bone, distend and stretch muscles and ligaments, and cause prisoners of past times to offer up confessions of guilt, be they actually guilty or not.

To even more freaky, Mr Santini tests these instruments on himself.

Number 5

Woman desperate to find out who the ghost-like men in the photograph are.

I’m a sucker when it comes to ghost stories, so this one grabbed my attention recently.

According to the article on the website www.express.co.uk, the pharmacy technician had taken the selfies while riding on the back of a friend’s motorbike 10 years ago, from her home of Cumberland, Maryland, USA, to Pennsylvania.

Melissa Manges claims she has been haunted for ten years by a paranormal set of soldiers, according to the www.express.co.uk

But when she sat down to admire her photos later the same evening she was stunned to be met with an eerie grey picture of four stern-looking ghouls in regimental dress.

She believes the ghosts could be soldiers from a bygone era, and is now desperate to discover the identity of the spooks.

Wow! Talk about a haunting experience…
