OPINION: ‘Take pity on areas affected by fireworks’

It is difficult to differentiate between the sound of gunshots and loud fireworks.

DEAR Editor,-

I speak on behalf of all concerned citizens and their voiceless pets who object to the uncontrolled discharging of fireworks.

I would suggest that open public areas (away from residences) be set aside for controlled fireworks displays.

The power of some fireworks should also be regulated as it is difficult to differentiate between the sound of gunshots and loud fireworks.

Municipal authorities and ward councillors – please take pity on the affected communities and their voiceless pets.
