‘Is the age of chivalry dead?’

The two occupants of NPS 61578 made me believe in the power of the human spirit again.

DEAR Editor,-

On a recent Sunday morning at 5.30am, I had a puncture a few metres from the old Bird Park in Uvongo (Hlanganani Park).

I emptied the boot, took out the spare wheel and started to jack the car up, lying in the road whilst trying to locate the car’s jack plate. Ten minutes later, numerous cars had passed me, but nobody stopped or even slowed down. Is the age of chivalry dead?

Eventually a car stopped and a young lady alighted from the passenger side. The car reversed and her male companion (my knight in shining armour) also alighted and changed the wheel within seconds and I was back on my journey. This exercise would have taken me at least half an hour.

Unfortunately I did not take the occupants’ names, only the car registration. NPS 61578 – my sincere thanks and appreciation, You two made me believe in the power of the human spirit again. Thank you. And by the way, the poodles did very well at the show!
