Merlewood Primary ‘spikes’ to volleyball finals

The cheers and shouts from the crowd were deafening!

Marburg sports courts were abuzz with support for Merlewood Primary’s U16 boys in the finals of the Ugu volleyball tournament recently.
The cheers and shouts from the crowd were deafening!

The U16 boys were undefeated in their round robin games. The team beat St Martins de Porres and Port Shepstone Secondary’s B team .
In the semi-finals they showed excellent team spirit that brought them up from a six point deficit to equalize at 23-23 and onwards to finally clinch the match at 26-24.

In the final, they played extremely well and lost in the third set.
Despite only a few training sessions, they played extremely well. We are proud of our volleyball players.

The U16 girls also played a good game and are improving all the time.
The school commends the excellent team morale and sportsmanship displayed by learners.
