Durban Girls’ College ranks top in KZN

The top performing learner was Hannah Hansa with an average of 93%.

In an independent survey carried out by BusinessTech, Durban Girls’ College (DGC) is ranked first in KwaZulu-Natal and third in the country based on the IEB Matric results of the Class of 2022 – source: https://www.facebook.com/BusinessTechSA.
What an extraordinary way to start the year with two national rankings; No. 2 in sport (Top 100 ‘Girls Sports’ Schools) and No. 3 in academics.

Further analysis of the matric results has shown that the grade average is 78%. The IEB subject percentage marks are all above the National IEB percentages by an average of 10%. The following subjects are more than 10% higher than the national average: Music 86 % (75%), Accounting 85% (65%), IT 81% (70%), Mathematics 78% (64%), and Physical Science 73% (62%).

The top performing learner was Hannah Hansa with an average of 93%, followed by Faathima Solwa with an average of 91%. Tazkia Abram and Sarah Andrew tied for third place with an average of 90%.

Recognising the learners who performed well is important but acknowledging that learners have achieved the goals they set for themselves is also vital. With 79% of symbols being As and Bs, most learners have attained personal bests in the marks they have achieved.

Excellent performance in Grade 12 is a cumulative effort and relies on the building blocks prepared in lower grades too. Eight of the 12 learners who achieved 7 or more distinctions started their journey at DGC in the Junior Primary.

“The Durban Girls’ College Class of 2022 has done themselves proud; the outstanding results is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Learners have performed exceptionally well while navigating the ongoing difficulties facing our country and particularly our province. We wish the Class of 2022 well as they disembark the Galleon, and we look forward to watching their progress as they go forth and enrich our world.” Heidi Rea, Executive Head, Durban Girls’ College.

Durban Girls’ College is an independent Christian School from Grade 00 to Grade 12, with weekly boarding from Grade 7.
