The Canine and Feline Drink Wine fundraiser, hosted by the Transkei Animal Welfare Initiative (TAWI), raised R23 200 at the Riverside Sports Club in Uvongo last Friday.
Founded in 2008, TAWI is a small outreach dedicated to eliminating the suffering of companion animals in the rural, impoverished communities of the former Transkei region.
TAWI fundraising coordinator Joeanne Francis explained that it is not a shelter.
She explained that TAWI operates in an outreach capacity, rescuing animals in their homes through community engagement.
She said TAWI uses a home-based primary animal health care method to ensure comprehensive care for every animal.
Francis added that this is done by visiting each animal in their home to monitor their well-being, educate owners, and address everything from the water bowl to vaccinations.
She said this personalised approach creates meaningful and lasting change within homes for domestic companions.
Organisers of the fundraiser thanked those who supported the event.
