Fashion and faith at Stonecroft meeting

Shirley Oosthuizen gave a moving and inspiring talk.

The weather was cold, wet and windy for the September Stonecroft Ministries meeting at the Shelly Beach Methodist Church, but all hearts were warmed by the joy and inspiration of the meeting.

Milady’s Fashion store presented its extensive variety of clothing for the summer season.

Clothes ranged from casual beach wear to striking smart outfits for special occasions.

Joan D’Arcy strikes a pose.

All the outfits were expertly modelled by Stonecroft members, including Heather Greyling, Elvira Venter and Joan D’Arcy.

Sue Francis, manager of the Milady’s branch at the Southcoast Mall, gave details of each outfit.

Ria Hackland, with her delightful voice and her own guitar accompaniment, entertained with her eclectic choice of songs and hymns.

Tea, prepared and served as usual by talented WA ladies, was delicious and appealing with the dainty and bite-size treats.

After tea, Shirley Oosthuizen gave a moving and inspiring talk on her recent visit with her husband to the Koi San people in the far north of Botswana and Zimbabwe.

Sue Francis, manager at Miladys Southcoast Mall.

She shared that she hadn’t always been a Christian, but God reached out to her to change her and prepare her for the plans He had for her.

She said that Jesus calls us unconditionally, totally forgives us, and restores us so that we can share His love with the unloved.

Shirley said that even getting to the small villages was challenging as often there weren’t even roads, and they had many damaged tyres en route.

Carol Aveyard takes notes for the Herald report.

Travelling was very slow under such adverse conditions.

The area is so very remote and is suffering a ravaging drought. The Koi San are very hungry; they have very little.

The children have neither footwear nor writing implements. Travel is by donkey carts or wheelbarrows.

The team travelled from village to village, where the people have nothing, neither schools nor churches, but they have such a passion to know Jesus.

As they sang and worshipped The Lord, many of them gave their lives to Him by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Shirley concluded by saying that God is calling her and the team to return next year.

They hope this time to be able to take gifts of the many items that the people need and trust in God for his provision.

Next meeting is on October 18.

Ria Hackland entertains in her usual unique way.
