Public Works silent on unpaid police pound rent

All vehicles, suspected to be stolen and stolen vehicles will be impounded at Saps Port Edward for further investigation.

Despite numerous attempts to obtain comment from the National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) regarding the previous week’s front page article, ‘Unpaid Rent – Vehicle Pound Evicted‘, the Herald has not yet received any feedback.

The Port Shepstone Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, Tactical Response Team and Vehicle Safeguarding Unit were evicted from their Marburg premises due to unpaid rent on September 13.

The units are now operating from the old court building near the Port Shepstone Saps.

In the meantime, all vehicles suspected to be stolen and stolen vehicles will be impounded at Saps Port Edward for further investigation.

The contact numbers for VCIU are as follows:

The Unit Commander Col Draai – 071 6836495

Captain Vermaak – 082 4115561

Member on standby – 079 5000863

Many vehicles were still parked outside the previous Saps Port Shepstone Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit in Marburg last Wednesday at 16:00.
