Let’s go down to the woods this Saturday

This event will be an old fashioned family day and will appeal to all ages.

Renowned South Coast actor and storyteller Barbie Meyer is best known for her Herman Charles Bosman adaptations, script writing, incredible singing voice, and, more recently, her passionate Janis Joplin tributes.

She has generously accepted the Ivungu River Conservancy’s invitation to regale locals with some reading at their upcoming Teddy Bears’ Picnic. She will turn the spotlight on a small, tubby character, perhaps the world’s most famous teddy bear, who goes by the name of Winnie the Pooh – she adores this bear.

And what better place to listen to her and these stories than under the shade of trees in a spot Winnie the Pooh would approve. As you can imagine, she has some hilarious insights about the characters to share with adults, so all ages are sure to love her chatty Winnie the Pooh background and observations.

She will share some storytelling and some of AA Milne’s wonderful poetry.

Pack a picnic hamper, bring along your family, your teddy bears and soft toys and enjoy a day relaxing in the great outdoors.

There will also be a teddy bear parade with some great spot prizes on offer, including a prize for the classiest picnic.

Sarah Unsworth will also read some children’s stories penned by her, and Barbie will conclude the formalities with some of her favourite children’s poems that are guaranteed to make you smile.

Entrance to this bumper family happening is a donation to help the Ivungu River Conservancy keep the beautiful urban gem polished to perfection.

Names of all donors will go into a hat, and one lucky visitor will win a bearish prize. It will be held at the Uvongo Conservancy Picnic spot on Saturday, September 28, at 11:00.

Entrance is off Edward Avenue. Entry is a donation to the conservancy if you are able.
