Holidaymaker goes the extra mile

Miles Harding celebrated his 21st birthday in Pennington with a clean-up.

Gauteng’s Miles Harding is a perfect example of what it means to be a Good Samaritan.

The 21-year-old, who holidays on the South Coast with his family once a year, came down to the mid-South Coast area to celebrate his milestone birthday.

During his stay, he had two birthday wishes – firstly, to celebrate his 21st at Pennington’s popular Beach Cafe, which he happily did last Saturday, and secondly, to help tidy the town in any way possible.

Miles chose to dedicate Monday this week to cleaning up parts of Pennington.

He considers himself a big Tidy Towns Pennington fan and admires the work that they do for the local community. Therefore, he decided that he would like to assist them with a clean-up project before heading back home.

Unfortunately, there were no projects on the day, but he was advised that he could help pick up litter, which he gladly did despite it being a very windy day.

“I love Tidy Towns and this community,” said Miles.

“I want to show people that if everyone helps clean the environment, it will definitely help make it neater and less untidy for everyone to enjoy.”

A message of appreciation was posted on the Tidy Towns Pennington Facebook page after the clean-up, and Miles received a lot of praise for his selfless act.

He was applauded for going the extra mile, taking into consideration that he was on holiday.

The young lad said that he simply cannot get enough of the South Coast and is eagerly awaiting the next visit.
