Animal remains cause a stink on roadside

It is becoming a health hazard as some of the remains are attracting flies and maggots.

Several animal remains found on a roadside in Umkomaas have been causing an eyesore and a stink in the area.

It is unknown as to what type of animals these are exactly and how long they have been lying here.

This section of road (located on the P88 alongside a barrier heading towards Sappi) has also evidently become a dumping ground as rubbish could be seen lying around with the animal remains.

Besides all of this causing an awful stench, it is becoming a health hazard as some of the remains are attracting flies and maggots.

A whole carcass is visible to motorists on this road.

The rainfall this week has not helped the situation either, as the rotting remains are now wet and contaminating the water puddles that stand in this section.

Local ward councillor Jane Naidoo was made aware of the situation.

“This isn’t the first incident that we’ve been made aware of recently. Poaching has become a major problem in this area, and it is a very sad sight. We have been working on these matters and putting plans in place,” said Naidoo.

She also said that she will inform the relevant departments about the matter as well.

Animal remains pile up in this area.
