Set healthy boundaries, urges Alyssa

Alyssa has a vested interest in supporting women and protecting children.

Alyssa Barberis recently visited Merlewood Primary School to talk to the Grade 6, 7 and 8 girls about self-esteem.

She grew up in Port Shepstone and now resides in Johannesburg. Alyssa is a teacher, mum and current Mrs Universe South Africa semi-finalist.

With August being Women’s Month, this was a very special opportunity to spend time with young girls and try to inspire confidence and self-love.

Alyssa believes that self-esteem is vital for all young people as it is the key to establishing healthy boundaries and, therefore, healthy relationships.

She told the learners that “you teach people how to treat you through the respect and boundaries that you hold for yourself, and you can start this with the friends that you choose”.

Alyssa has a vested interest in supporting women and protecting children.

In Johannesburg, she has been involved in charity drives and has arranged a Women’s Empowerment Event to raise funds for House of Hope, a safe haven for abandoned and abused babies in Pretoria.

She is very keen to do more on the South Coast as a part of her heart remains here.
