New traffic wardens (30) for RNM

The new Ray Nkonyeni Municipality traffic wardens began training on July 1.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) welcomed 30 newly recruited traffic wardens who recently completed training.

RNM spokesperson Simon April said it was a must that the municipality hired them. These wardens began training on July 1.

April explained that the municipality had been inundated with concerns from the public about the lack of visible law enforcement officers in some communities.

He added that the lack of visibility was due to the small number of traffic wardens employed by the municipality.

“The municipality had to prioritise their recruitment, and they have now started work,” he said.

RNM mayor Zodwa Mzindle said this was a new chapter for the traffic wardens and the RNM community.

She said the wardens are now part of a dedicated team tasked with ensuring our communities’ and visitors’ safety and well-being.

She said their presence signifies the commitment to uphold the values of responsibility, integrity, and vigilance.

“Law enforcement, in particular, and traffic management is the backbone of our municipality’s infrastructure and daily lives. Through your diligent efforts, we can ensure a safe environment for all residents and visitors. Your role will be pivotal in enforcing traffic regulations, bylaws and other laws. Today, you embark on a journey that will change, inspire, and enable you to make a tangible difference in our community,” said Mzindle.

She added that the responsibilities they will shoulder are significant, saying that the municipality trusts that they will carry them out with the utmost dedication and professionalism.

Mzindle said they invested in the wardens’ training and will continue working alongside them to ensure their success.

She added that as they step into their new roles, they must remember that they are not just enforcing laws; they are also embodying the spirit of service and commitment to the people the municipality serves.

“You will contribute to making RNM a safer and more harmonious place. On behalf of the entire RNM, I extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome to each of you. We look forward to seeing the positive impact you will make. We are confident that you will uphold the higher standard of excellence,” said Mzindle.

Meanwhile, April said should the municipality’s situation allow for the recruiting of more traffic wardens. They will keep hiring every financial year until they get the desired number.

The new traffic wardens have begun work.
