All beachgoers, including paddlers, hikers and fishermen, are urged to be extra cautious of the stronger than normal rip currents along the coast in the next few days.
Craig Lambinon of NSRI, said stormy seas coupled with the new moon spring tide which will peak on Tuesday, September 3 will contribute to dangerous sea conditions around the South African coastline.
“Spring tide and rough seas caused by recent cold fronts and deep sea storms may cause stronger than normal rip currents. Some areas around the coast may be cut off from main land during the spring high tide,” he said.
Lambinon said this ‘spring tide phase’ will reduce in intensity towards the first week of September.
