FIRE UPDATE: Several people treated for smoke inhalation

The blaze destroyed many homes at the Hibberdene resort.

Paramedics treated several people for smoke inhalation when a fire erupted at Anchors Aweigh in Hibberdene earlier this evening.

Glen Preston of Med-Evac said they are grateful to Ugu Disaster Management, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Fire Department, local security teams, farmers from Hibberdene and Umzumbe, Community Police Forums, and community members for their collective efforts to battle the flames.

“Despite their valiant efforts, strong winds and the rapid spread of the fire led to the loss of eight thatch roof houses and two cars,” said Preston.
