Mbango River black with pollution

Residents are worried about the polluted Mbango River.

Residents are deeply concerned about the polluted state of the Mbango River.

Most recently, sewage has been flowing into the river, making it toxic.

Residents told the Herald that the river has turned black, and the stench coming from it is ‘unbearable’ on a good day.

“It’s so sad that wildlife and the birds, such as the Egyptian geese and the yellow bill ducks which have babies, have to drink and swim in this water,” said a resident.

The dire situation of Mbango River has been going on for years, and there have been many calls to Ugu District Municipality for assistance to sort out the ongoing sewage problem along the river.

No response from Ugu was received at the time of going to press.

The shocking state of Mbango River.
