Many temples on the South Coast observed the important prayer.

Varalakshmi Vratam, also called Varalakshmi Puja, is a Hindu observance to propitiate the Goddess of wealth.

It is a popular prayer, primarily performed by married Hindu women, which is observed on the Friday before the day of the full moon.

On the South Coast, many temples observed the prayer, and devotees prayed for the prosperity and well-being of their families.

The Varalakshmi Vratam is performed for the well-being of the women in order to ask the Goddess to bless their husbands with health and longevity.

On this occasion, women worship the Goddess Lakshmi with utmost devotion, offering fruits, sweets and flowers.

A red thread is tied to the Goddess. A similar thread is prepared for each devotee and placed in front of the Goddess during the prayer.

After the rituals, the thread bracelets are distributed and worn on the right wrist as a mark of protection. Raksha Sutra is the raw cotton tied around the wrist of devotees participating.
