Awards for brave NSRI crew

Fourie was recognised for his courage during the 2022 KZN floods with crew members of NSRI Station 39, along with the national and local emergency services that rendered aid and assistance in multiple flood-related incidents.

NSRI station commander for Station 39 Rocky Bay, Kevin Fourie, received a Gold Gallantry Award at the NSRI’s 57th annual awards ceremony and AGM held at the Capital Zimbali Resort recently.

Fourie was recognised for his courage during the 2022 KZN floods with crew members of NSRI Station 39, along with the national and local emergency services that rendered aid and assistance in multiple flood-related incidents.

He was acknowledged for the leadership of his team and his own actions in the rescue of some 200 people from a variety of predicaments during the 15 hours the team operated along the freeway and side roads between Isipingo and Prospecton.

Fourie was also the recipient of the highly acclaimed International Higgins & Langley Memorial Award for Bravery, where he was commended for his personal bravery, going to the aid of persons in trouble in known dangerous conditions without concern for his own safety.

These incidents occurred along the KZN coastline and inland due to heavy rainfall, resulting in devastating floods in Durban and surrounding areas.

Other recipients awarded for their bravery during the 2022 KZN floods were Travis Clarke (Gold Gallantry Award), Deon Dekker (Bronze Gallantry Award), Nicki Gibson (Meritorious Service Award), Linda Putter (Meritorious Service Award) and Adrian Fransman (NSRI Director’s Letter of Thanks).
