Round Tablers descend on South Coast

The conference rotates between the three areas every year.

Margate Round Table is set to host the eagerly anticipated KZN Tri-Area conference.

Chairman Rupert Niebuhr explained how, many years ago, two past Round Table Southern Africa presidents (one being a South Coast resident) discussed combining an area conference for the three Round Table areas in the province into one.

He said their aim was to get this group of men and their families to one place in order to enjoy the fellowship that Round Table prides itself on.

And it’s been a wonderful success ever since.

This year, the task has gone to well-known Margate Round Table member Etienne du Plessis.

The conference rotates between the three areas every year – from the cold Drakensberg mountains to the humid North Coast and, this year, back to the temperate South Coast (in winter, anyway).

It will be held at TO Strand in Port Edward this weekend.

Margate Round Table will welcome some 140 Table members from Southern Africa’s 14 Round Table areas, plus one from as far afield as Namibia.

One thing which the KZN Round Table members are very proud of is that this is the original, multi-area conference – and many other regions in Southern Africa have adopted this approach to area conferences since.

The aim had always been to involve the families in what is predominantly a male-orientated organisation as well as to share ideas about the fundraising that Round Table achieves every year.

Margate Round Table has already had a cracking year, with the massively popular Oppi Kus Music Festival having recently taken place.
The club has a golf day planned for September 7 at the iconic San Lameer Country Club.

Overall, Round Table members make wonderful contributions to the communities in which they are involved.

This conference offers the opportunity for members to share ideas about how to best achieve this.

Eleven of the 14 areas will be represented at the conference. The Round Table Southern Africa executive will be attending, and having one of their exec meetings here will allow for a great opportunity for brainstorming and possible collaborations between clubs.

Margate Round Table hopes that this will be a successful conference and that Round Table will continue to make positive contributions to the communities in which it is involved.

Association President Antonie Smit shared how the conference was a bucket list item on any Tabler’s calendar for the year – attending the ‘original one’, the KZN Tri-area Conference.

Tri or Bi Area Conferences offers our members the opportunity to travel, engage and experience fellowship with members outside their own area.
As per tradition, the Round Table Southern Africa Executive Council always holds its second executive meeting for the year at this conference, with this year being no different.

The Round Table Southern Africa Executive Council is excited to meet up with over 100 Round Table members, sharing ideas on how to further the aims and objectives of Round Table Southern Africa.
