Umdoni Mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli, together with council’s Chief Whip Clr Sithandiwe Zulu, conducted a surprise visit at the grounds last week to inspect the work currently being undertaken.

“We were pleased to find the contractor on site, working towards fulfilling the contractual obligation of the first phase of this project,” said Cele-Luthuli.

The second phase planned for the current financial year is set to commence soon which will include the construction of paving between the pavilion steps and the sports ground leading to the office building, the installation of a second combo court and the installation of a 1.5 metre high fence around the sports ground.

“We are committed to making this sports ground a state of the art facility, which will be the home sports ground for all sportsmen and women of Umdoni. The full functionality of this sports ground is imperative as it will help the youth be fully engaged in developing themselves in sports, thus alleviating social ills in our communities.”
