Oppi Kus Musiekfees: Big screens, more artists, better sound

The best music festival for the entire family will take place at Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds in Uvongo on July 5 and 6.

Bigger and better!

That’s the promise for this year’s blockbuster Oppi Kus Musiekfees, set to take place in Uvongo on Friday and Saturday, July 5 and 6.

The countdown for one of the best family fun festivals has begun in earnest, with preparations being fine-tuned by the organisers, Margate Round Table 46.

The club members will be hard at work preparing the tent and facility at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground.

Good to know, is that partygoers don’t have to stress about the roadworks, as they will be complete before the festival.

Round Table’s Chairman, Rupert Niebuhr, said the community can expect a spectacular event with an incredible line-up of popular artists, plus a more dynamic food experience.

Steve Hofmeyr headlines the list of 13 artists, which includes Armand Hofmeyr, Jakkie Louw, Franja du Plessis, Bok van Blerk, Kurt Darren, and more.

Winston Smile and Shaun Wulf will represent the South Coast’s local talent.

From a logistical perspective, the organisers have listened to the public and introduced some necessary and exciting changes:

* More toilets with better washroom facilities and cleaned more often.

* More speakers so you can hear the music wherever you are.

* More screens for a better visual experience.

* More food vendors, more variety, shorter queues.

FESTIVAL TIMES

Doors will open on Friday, July 5 at 15:00.

Married singing couple Wynand and Cheree will kick off the two-day festival at 16:00.

On Saturday, July 6, doors open at noon, and the first artist will perform at 13:00.

Due to popular demand, the Springboks vs Ireland rugby match (on Saturday, July 6) will be on the big screen from 17:00 to 19:00.

No artists were cancelled to accommodate the screening of this game.

ABOUT MARGATE TABLERS

Hosted by Margate Round Table 46, this project aims to raise funds for a better South Coast community and to boost the local economy.

The organisation was chartered in 1952 and has, over the years, seen young men raise funds for worthy causes through the club.

Some R200 000 was generated at last year’s festival and channelled directly back into the community.

Niebuhr expects that festival-goers will experience a strong sense of unity, along with simply enjoying a wonderful musical experience.

“They will get the opportunity to sing, dance, and appreciate the incredible talent of both local and established artists.”

Tickets are available at itickets.com/events/477901, Ok Liquors and at Douglas Mitchell. Limited tickets will be available at the gate.

The Oppi Kus Musiekfees’ large tent erected in 2023. This year promises to be a ‘bigger and better’ experience.
