Wheelchair donation well-received

This donation was from Chair the Hope.

A much-needed wheelchair donation was made to Khanya Hospice recently.

The NGO desperately needed this donation, and CEO Neil McDonald said it could not have come at a better time.

Charlie Panday, a Rotarian at the Rotary Club of Chatsworth, was the organiser of a container of wheelchairs, which was distributed among a few charities and organisations which needed wheelchairs on the South Coast.

This donation was from Chair the Hope, a privately run NGO by Nathan and Heather Ogden from America, who donated 280 wheelchairs to the South Coast area – of which Khanya Hospice was also a recipient.

“We had a list of people who needed wheelchairs, not only our patients, but we had requests from amputees who were being pushed in wheelbarrows; others were bed-bound. It is very difficult to work with ‘dead weight’ patients. To get to toilets and bathrooms, to go to shops, just to get outside is very difficult for these people, but with these new wheelchairs, it is life-changing for them.”
