Catch Blarney & Son at the Village this Saturday

They are met with stories of nostalgia wherever they go.

Blarney & Son will perform at Margate Retirement Village on Saturday, June 29.

Many South Coasters will have enjoyed the music and shows produced by Blarney Brothers over the years.

In 48 years, they put on more than 10 000 shows across South Africa, with Margate a popular area in the holidays.

The legacy continues with Blarney & Son, namely Tony Fisher and his son David.

The father-son duo is now into its fourth year, having started during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Tony still has a magical voice, while David helps with backing and lead vocals, depending on the song.

On stage, Tony plays bass, fiddle, penny whistle and mandolin, while David plays guitar, banjo and bass.

Tony Fisher and his son, David, form Blarney & Son.

David handles the marketing and social media and said they had done about 550 shows already.

“We strive to maintain the same old Blarney sound that makes people joyful and do silly things,” he said.

“We are met with stories of nostalgia wherever we go. People always bring up tales of The Barn, Father’s Mustache and Old Castillian.”

He said his father, Tony, has no desire to retire.

“We travel all over the country and never see it as work. We see it as an honour and a blessing that our job is to bring joy to others.”

In their spare time, they try to keep fit and spend time on the beach.

David has recently written a song about the Springboks called 95.

The show on June 29 will take place in the Margate Retirement Village’s Azalea Hall, starting at 19:00. Cost is R80.

Those attending are encouraged to bring own snacks/dinner. Doors open at 18:00.
