Trench raises ire of motorists

A motorist was recently travelling to Port Shepstone from Hibberdene when he hit the trench before the Southport bridge.

Many drivers travelling on the R102 near Southport have suffered flat tyres and bent rims after hitting a trench.

A motorist was recently travelling to Port Shepstone from Hibberdene when he hit the trench before the Southport bridge. Two other motorists’ tyres burst on the same morning.

“Potholes remain in disrepair for far too long, there are no lines visible on the roads and no traffic police to ensure that motorists are obeying the rules of the road. This is becoming more noticeable as everyone does exactly what they want every day. The verges are now in the process of being cut for which we are grateful but maintaining them would be appreciated, ” said the motorist.

A Southport resident who travels to Port Shepstone daily asked: “Who is responsible for this damage as this is not on the motorists? If our roads are taken care of, we wouldn’t have these problems. Why are they taking such a long time to do a proper job here?”

The Kwazulu-Natal Department of Transport was contacted for comment but none was forthcoming at the time of going to print.
