Family loses all in fire

Currently Mpikiswano Ntobela is living in a shack that he was using as a storage room.

Mpikiswano Ntobela from Dingimbiza area in Mtwalume said he has no clue what started a fire at his home last Monday.

He said he received a call at about 14:00 from a neighbour to hurry home from a nearby school, where he was working as a party agent.

“When I got home, the damage had been done.”

He said everything was burnt to ashes. “I lost clothes, food and my documents.”

Ntobela said he was living there with his 10-year-old son, who is now with relatives.

The burnt out kitchen.

“My son also lost everything, including his school uniform and books. He is with relatives, but I will have to fetch him soon so he can be closer to school.”

Currently, Ntobela is living in a shack that he was using as a storage room.

He has received help from his neighbours with food and other basics.

Ntobela is unemployed and cannot afford to rebuild.

“I plead with the community to help me rebuild so that my son and I can have a home again.”

A neighbour, Sphamandla Nzama, said Ntombela’s situation is unfortunate, especially because he is not working.

“He even lost the goods he had bought to resell. He has nothing at the moment, and we would like to see him getting help.”

Nzama also emphasised that his son desperately needs a uniform and school books.

The two-room house was destroyed.
