By-election for six Umzumbe wards

All registered voters are encouraged to take along their green barcoded ID books, smart ID cards or a valid temporary ID book.

The IEC has announced the date of the by-election for Wards 1, 2, 3, 9, 11 and 19 in Umzumbe.

Out of six wards, only the Ward 11 vacancy emanates from the expulsion of a councillor by the party; the remainder are due to the resignation of ward councillors from the municipal council.

IEC Regional Outreach Officer Andile Msomi said voters who cannot vote on election day can apply for a special vote in order to vote a day before the election.

“Applications opened on June 3 and will close on June 7. Special votes will be cast on June 18 from 08:00 to 17:00.”

Msomi said the by-election will take place on June 19, and all 38 voting stations will be opened from 07:00 to 21:00.

All registered voters are encouraged to take along their green barcoded ID books, smart ID cards or a valid temporary ID.

Political parties taking part are ANC, IFP, MK, EFF, ATM and APEMO.
