Wildlife rescues recover under CROW’s care

Special care has been given to CROW's newest wildlife patients from the South Coast.

The newest addition to the CROW family is a sub-adult tree squirrel all the way from Port Edward.

This unarguably cute tree squirrel is currently at the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW), which is based in Yellowwood Park in Durban.

CROW is a non-profit organisation and is committed to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of orphaned and injured wildlife.

Denika Govender from CROW said the tree squirrel was hand-reared by a member of the public and is now under their care.

“Our dedicated nurses have given it a thorough check-up, and they are happy to report no apparent injuries,” she said.

But the journey does not end here.

Their mission is to rehabilitate and ensure this squirrel’s successful return to the wild.

The same goes for a recently rescued reedbuck from Kokstad, which is making incredible progress.

“After receiving treatment for colic, our nurses and local vet noticed a concerning infection in her joints. With specialised care and medication, we are overjoyed to share that she can now stand up on her own, a testament to her resilience and the amazing care she’s receiving,” said Govender.

Kelsey Canot from Brighton Beach Vet has been administering red light therapy, which is truly making a difference in her recovery journey.

With your support through CROW’s guardian membership programme, you can be part of these incredible journeys.

Every day, the dedicated team at CROW works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and release wildlife in need. From orphaned mongooses to injured birds, no rescue is too small or too challenging for these heroes.

With round-the-clock care and unwavering dedication, over 3 000 animals are given a second chance at life in their natural habitats every year, thanks to CROW.
