Anxious moments for fisherman stranded out at sea off Port Shepstone [PHOTOS & VIDEO]

All emergency services responded to the call for assistance.

A local fisherman found himself stranded out at sea near the Port Shepstone lighthouse and popular fishing spot known as the The Block when his ski-vee capsized late yesterday afternoon and into the early evening.

Emergency services, including paramedics, Saps Search and Rescue, and crew from National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) responded to the call.

Glen Preston, of Med-Evac, was onboard the NSRI sea rescue craft Spirit of Dawn.

He was with crew from NSRI, who responded by sea to help the fisherman, while other emergency service personnel waited on shore to assist where possible and if necessary.

“However, the fisherman managed to swim to the beach. His vessel also washed ashore. He was assessed and found to be uninjured,” said Preston.
