Petition on the go to exempt toll fees

Clr George Henderson said he was told by the KZN Department of Transport and the South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (Sanral) that an alternate route is available.

The DA is calling on the provincial government to take note of the frustration of South Coasters, especially with the construction on Marine Drive, which has created a traffic nightmare for motorists.

Drivers are forced to use the N2 toll, with fees having gone up again in March.

The DA also calls on the provincial government to scrap the toll fees at both the Shelly Beach and Port Shepstone off-ramps for commuters travelling between Port Shepstone and Port Edward.

Clr George Henderson said he was told by the KZN Department of Transport and the South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (Sanral) that an alternate route is available.

George Henderson shows that toll fees that went up in March.

”The many stop-and-go controls create lengthy delays, negatively affecting business and schooling. In an effort to reduce time spent in traffic, residents have the option of using the N2/R61 but toll fees limit those with access to this ‘detour’ due to the ever-increasing cost of living and the financial burden it puts on South Africans.”

The DA says that businesses and residents have suffered enough hardship and challenges, and any financial relief will be of great assistance.

A petition to Sanral to exempt the toll fees at the Shelly Beach and Port Shepstone off-ramps while Marine Drive is under construction has been made public and needs 5 000 signatures.
