San Lameer celebrates water filtration plant

The product qualities meet the SANS 241 specification, ensuring the water's safety and potability.

The San Lameer Master Homeowners’ Association (SLMHA) is delighted with the successful launch of a water filtration plant and advances in electricity provision.

This milestone marks a significant step forward in ensuring consistent, potable water supply to the estate.

It follows a strategic decision by the board in February last year.

Proactive measures were initiated to enhance both water and electricity provision systems within the estate.

This included spearheading the process of becoming the primary supplier of potable water to San Lameer and implementing measures to improve electricity supply reliability.

The operational progress summary for the first phase of the water supply project indicates:

The basic water filtration plant, commissioned on December 8, 2023, draws water from the fishing dam and two boreholes, ensuring a steady supply to the estate.

Although the supply from the Ugu reservoir was closed, it remains available as a backup source if needed.

From December 8 to December 14, 2023, the filtration plant supplied 1612m³ of water to the estate, maintaining stable levels in the storage reservoir (‘green tanks’).

Continuous adjustments have been made to optimise the water supply, with a peak achievement of 381 m³ in 24 hours, surpassing the initial design output of 280 m³ per 24 hours.

The product qualities meet the SANS 241 specification, ensuring the water’s safety and potability.

Regarding electricity provision, the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) approved the registration application by the association to operate its own generation facility on December 1, 2023.

Efforts are underway to address concerns regarding possible glare emitted from solar panels to ensure safety for aircraft approaching Margate Airport.

The installation of load management systems at pre-identified villas allows for effective management of electricity load, particularly during periods of load shedding.

Managing Director Pine Pienaar expressed gratitude to the community for its patience and support throughout these enhancements.

Pienaar emphasised the association’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and contentment of the San Lameer community.
