WATCH: EFF and Ugu in verbal tussle over memorandum

It was a tense afternoon outside the Ugu District Municipality offices in Port Shepstone.

A group of EFF protestors marched to Ugu District Municipality’s main office in Port Shepstone yesterday (Thursday).

EFF secretary-general Marshall Dlamini   said yesterday that the group would not leave Ugu’s offices until officials addressed them and gave them the opportunity to hand over a memorandum containing a number of grievances, the main one being the lack of water supplied to various communities in the Ugu region.

A South Coast Herald journalist was present and reported that those at the protest waited for more than an hour for members of the party and the municipal officials to agree on where exactly the memorandum should be handed over.

EFF members demanded that the Ugu officials come to their podium. Municipal officials responded by saying: “That is not how we do things.”

“If you are handing over a memorandum to us then you must come to us not the other way around,” said Ugu officials.

Eventually, the memorandum was handed over and the group dispersed.
