Christians unite for Easter sunrise service

For many it was a time to reconnect with friends and family they may not have seen in a while.

It’s not every Easter Sunday that the sun plays the game and makes itself shown.
In the past it’s been cloudy and sometimes just plain wet, with heavy rain on occasion.

But last Sunday morning the weather was perfect, if a touch chilly for some initially, and the sunrise was wonderful.

However, you could say it wasn’t as good as the camaraderie and ‘togetherness’ experienced by those who attended the annual service, which started at 05:30.

For many it was a time to reconnect with friends and family they may not have seen in a while.
There was an excellent turnout, with the grassy area in front of C-Bali (who kindly opened their doors for a discounted coffee and the use of the toilets), towards the lifesavers’ clubhouse, absolutely packed.

Christians from numerous different churches came to worship and acknowledge the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This was in the form of several songs, with worship led by Jono Downham and Mitchell Blewitt. Keenan van der Berg joined them on bongo drums.

There was a welcome greeting by Trevor Downham, an opening prayer by Chris Anderson, a prayer for the message by Casper de Villiers, followed by a short message shared by Chad van Niekerk.

This was rounded off with the taking of the communion, led by Larry Elliott.
After the service, there were baptisms held in the tidal pool, watched by a small crowd which chose to stay and support.
