Free eye screenings for hospital’s employees

The event aimed to raise awareness about glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness.

In honour of World Glaucoma Day, Port Shepstone Regional Hospital hosted a special event on March 12, offering complimentary eye screenings to employees.

The event aimed to raise awareness about glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness and emphasised the importance of early detection and treatment.

The initiative kicked off at the hospital’s occupational clinic, where staff members underwent comprehensive eye examinations. The assessments included visual acuity tests to evaluate their ability to discern letters and various vision assessments. After this initial screening, participants proceeded to the hospital’s eye clinic for further evaluation by Dabula.

Dabula utilises state-of-the-art eye screening tools to assess ocular health and detect any signs of glaucoma or other eye conditions. Each staff member received personalised attention and guidance throughout the screening process, ensuring thorough and accurate evaluations.

In addition to the screenings, staff members received informative materials about glaucoma and the importance of regular eye check-ups. Educational resources on administering ophthalmic solutions were also provided, stressing the significance of adherence to treatment plans for individuals diagnosed with glaucoma.

The event’s focus on emphasising the significance of early detection and treatment was aimed at preventing vision impairment and enhancing outcomes for those impacted by the condition.

Port Shepstone Regional Hospital continues its dedication to advancing vision health for both its staff and the community. They urge adherence to the established referral systems to ensure a streamlined process for patients to receive care at the appropriate level.
