Art in the mall in aid of cancer research

The art exhibition will no doubt add interest and excitement to the shopping experience of patrons.

Locals and up-country visitors are in for quite a treat this Easter holiday season when visiting the Southcoast Mall.

Acclaimed art club Art by the Sea has teamed up with SAACA (Southern Africa Animal Cancer Association) and the Southcoast Mall to stage an exciting art exhibition in the food court.

This event will be during normal shopping hours from now until Saturday, April 6.

A selective group of artists from the club will exhibit a variety of paintings, including landscapes, seascapes, portraits, floral and animal art, abstract paintings, and more, in all mediums.

Art by the Sea this year celebrates 52 years of art on the South Coast. With a group of about 40 diverse artists getting together every Tuesday throughout the year, multiple styles and techniques find expression in their works.

This year, the club decided to support SAACA as their chosen charity. To this end, each artist committed to donate to SAACA a sizeable percentage of the selling price of paintings sold at this exhibition.

This will enable research on cancer in animals at the Onderstepoort laboratories; these results could eventually be applied to cancer prevention and treatment in human beings.

Also, earlier in February, a Paint in Pink art day was held, resulting in a good number of paintings being donated by the artists to SAACA.

These were supposed to be auctioned off locally in April in favour of the charity but it was decided that hosting this event later on a larger scale countrywide would be more beneficial.

However, a selection of these pink paintings will be on exhibition in the mall to allow art lovers to negotiate a favourable price.
