RDP house beneficiaries grateful

The MEC for Human Settlements, Sipho 'KK' Nkosi handed over a number of RDP houses in the Ugu District which started in Izingolweni and proceeded to Mtwalume.

The MEC for Human Settlements, Sipho ‘KK’ Nkosi, is unhappy with the progress of a housing project in Izingolweni under the Mavundla Tribal Authority.

He not only found the project slow, but was also told that it was being sabotaged by the tribal authorities in the area.

Furthermore, he said the department has written to Cogta to intervene, so that the project is completed.
Nkosi made this statement last Thursday in Mtwalume, where he handed over RDP houses in the community.

The MEC handed over a number of RDP houses in the Ugu District last week, which started in Izingolweni and proceeded to Mtwalume.

Nkosi said he was overwhelmed when he handed a key to a new house to an 88 year old woman.

“She has never owned a house and for us to hand one to her at her age was exciting.”
Nkosi said overall the department has to build 1000 houses, at a cost of over R54 million, and the first phase of 300 houses has been completed.

“I have signed off on 300 more houses to be built, which is the second phase of the project.”
He said at every house hand over, they also donate furniture and food.

One of the beneficiaries, Nothemba Mkhuphiso of Mtwalume said she is very excited.
Mkhuphiso has seven family members whom she lived with in a two-room house since 2007
She could not stop saying how thankful and grateful she is to have received the house.
The MEC also gave the family groceries and two double beds.
