The deputy minister of the Department of Transport, Lisa Nkosinathi Mangcu, visited Ray Nkonyeni Municipality to inspect the long-awaited upgrades to Main Harding Road and Nelson Mandela Drive on Monday last week.
“The road upgrades are funded via grants from National Treasury, so I am aware of all the projects. I visit municipalities that are beneficiaries of these funds.”
He said overall, he is satisfied with the rehabilitation of both roads.
“They are slightly behind schedule on Main Harding Road, however the quality of the road is good.”
Mangcu said of importance is that pavements were created for pedestrians.
Another project that Mangcu visited was the Port Shepstone Intermodal Facility in the CBD.
“We are impressed by all the projects that RNM is undertaking and proud of them for the three awards they received at the Municipal Excellence Awards.”
Mangcu also mentioned that RNM presented its dream of a mini harbour. He said one of the department’s entities will work with the municipality to make sure that they concretise their plan.
“The municipality has shared a couple of problems on certain roads that they need assistance with. We will discuss it with our colleagues and see how we can assist.”
Overall the minister said he was very impressed and scored RNM 8 out of 10.
