RNM scoops three excellence awards

The awards motivate municipalities to enhance their performance, productivity and innovation in service provision, as well as promote best practices.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) bagged three awards at the KZN Cogta Municipal Excellence Awards held in Pietermaritzburg last week.

The team of RNM led by the mayor, Zodwa Mzindle, received accolades in three categories which are Clean Audit Opinion for 2021/2022, Best Developed IDP 2023/2024 and Overall Winners for 2022/2023.

These awards are hosted by Cogta as part of its efforts to encourage municipalities and traditional councils within the province to improve service delivery. The awards also motivate municipalities to enhance their performance, productivity and innovation in service provision, as well as promote best practices.

Mzindle thanked everyone who has contributed to the achievements, both councillors for their oversight role and the administration for implementing resolutions of council and doing the work with diligence.

She said there are problems, but the awards show that they can all work together to bring service delivery to the people.

“Our main challenge currently is the state of our roads, but it is not deliberate it is because of climate change. We fix the road today and tomorrow it rains which takes us a step back.”

Mzindle said that she will sit down with her team to discuss the way forward.
