Ivungu Conservancy tackles new projects

The group is looking to raise funds for the ongoing maintenance of the paths and control of alien plants.

After the Ivungu River Conservancy’s first recent committee meeting, the group of environmental enthusiasts have an exciting list of plans for the new year.

The chairman, Bill Davis, added that they also have a number of projects in the pipeline.
The rest of the committee is made up of Dave Lucey (vice-chairman), Wendy Walker (treasurer), Barbie Meyer (scribe), the fundraising gurus Daniel Ludick and Sarah Unsworth, and members Paddy Norman, Judi Davis and Ruth Clarke.

Ivungu River Conservancy committee member and Wessa representative Paddy Norman, offers some words of wisdom.

“We have drawn up a wish list and are looking for donations, sponsorships and help,” said Bill.
Their first project is to improve the picnic area where they need more picnic tables and benches. The group voted for the concrete set which costs around R2 000.

They would also need help with transport and concrete for the bases and then manpower to place them in the right position – somewhere near the existing bench, below the Striders Clubhouse in Uvongo.
Secondly, they need a new updated information board near the swings.

Ivungu River Conservancy scribe Barbie Meyer will host a ‘Marico Moon’ evening, featuring her popular adaptations of Herman Charles Bosman stories, as a fundraiser.

And, thirdly funding is needed for the ongoing maintenance of the paths and control of alien plants.
