Uniforms donated to 140 learners in Mtwalume

The Mathulini Communal Property Association also donated food, a photocopier and a laptop.

Learners in Grade R and 1 in the Ingweleleni rural area in Mtwalume received school uniforms last Friday.

Chief Bhekizizwe Luthuli of Mathulini Tribal Authority donated the uniforms through the Mathulini Communal Property Association (MCPA).

Luthuli said many people in the area are poor and don’t receive much, hence the reason to help them.
They also donated food, a photocopier and a laptop.

“We used funds from some of the money we received after we were given back land.”
He said the land was returned in November 2023 which they had been fighting for years.

The manager of the Mathulini Communal Property Association, Sandile Dlamini.

“The government gave us back the land, which was phase one and two but it took longer than we had agreed on. We were forced to go the legal route.”

Luthuli said some 140 learners benefitted from the uniform donation in various schools in the area.
The manager of MCPA, Sandile Dlamini said it was the organisation’s way of giving back to the community.

Dlamini said it is not only schools that have been helped, but also a creche where they donated food.

“We started this programme last week and we have visited 11 different schools.”
He said that they have also awarded bursaries to five learners valued at R100 000 each.

Inkosi Bhekizizwe Luthuli initiated a school uniform donation programme in Mtwalume.
