Stonecroft Ministries invited dietician, Natalie Quinn to its first get together of the year at the Shelly Beach Methodist Church recently.
Quinn’s talk was to remind guests of the importance of living and eating healthy, especially after the festive season.
She said from age 40 onwards, both men and women start losing muscle mass, causing the body to change, mostly in the abdomen.
“Eating two cups of vegetables every day for lunch and dinner is one way of eating healthy. You can get creative to make your meals,” Quinn added.
She said fruits are important in one’s diet. “Fruits are loaded with oxidants and minerals which boost our metabolism”.
She said it is common for women to go shopping without a list and on empty stomachs.
“It is important to plan when buying groceries. Buy more grains such as lentils, to increase fibre intake, avoid red and processed meats and always choose less fat. Keeping a daily log of what you eat helps you keep track of whether you are eating right.
She emphasised that drinking a lot of fluids to avoid dehydration is as important as keeping a healthy weight.
Jessica Naicker of non-profit, Ignite Revolution gave a talk. She shared her life story and how she chose to be Christian from a Hindu background.
She also told the gathering about her organisation and some of its projects.
At the end of the talks, the ladies networked over tea and treats.
