Focus on safety for Shelly Beach sector

The chairperson of the Shelly Beach CPF, Corri van Wyk said the purpose of the meeting was for all the stakeholders to get to know each other.

Law enforcement entities from the Shelly Beach sector got together for a meet and greet at the Shelly Beach Ski-boat Club recently.

Security officials from Lazer, Maser, ADT and Wolf, along with the Saps and the Shelly Beach Community Policing Forum (CPF) introduced themselves to the public and ‘paras’ who hang around the Shelly Centre area.

The chairperson of the Shelly Beach CPF, Corri van Wyk said the purpose of the meeting was for all the stakeholders to get to know each other.

“It was also for stakeholders to know that it’s full steam ahead for the new year, and that every month we will have meetings to discuss the matters in Shelly Beach. The area is a tourist attraction and as law enforcement we are responsible for ensuring that our residents and tourists are safe. We will not only be looking into crime, but we will also focus on child welfare and other social issues,” said Van Wyk.

Constable Sakhile Nzama of the Saps addressed the ‘paras’ who are working at the ski-boat club, washing the boats.

Nzama said they have been informed of diesel theft and that they will get to the bottom of it.

“We are aware that some are working here to make a living while others are here to make money to feed their habits. A minority are stealing diesel from the boats and are selling drugs in the area. Stealing will break the relationship and trust between the ‘paras’ and the boat owners, Nzama emphasised.

He said theft should be reported to the CPF or law enforcement officers who are always patrolling the area.
Sector manager, Sergeant Nosizwe Mrawushe added to what Nzama said and encouraged the community to work together with the police and CPF to eradicate crime in the area.

“We should all work together for peace and safety in our community,” she added.
Mrawushe said anyone who wants to report a crime can contact her on 079 5001053 or Corri van Wyk on 079 7559719.
