TAXI VIOLENCE: Policeman injured, warnings to avoid Margate

People are warned not to use taxis to Margate as the situation is very tense.

A policeman was shot during a continuation of the taxi violence in Margate this morning.

It’s believed he was taken to hospital for treatment; it’s not certain how badly injured he is at this stage.

Passengers and pedestrians have been warned to stay away from Margate town as it is not safe.

Seaslopes road is closed.

Taxis have blocked the Masinenge intersection near SPCA and also in Margate Extension 3, coming into Masinenge on the Seaslopes road.

According to a source known to the Herald the situation is ‘tense’.

The violence broke out yesterday afternoon when a Gamalakhe taxi was attacked in Manaba.

Windows were smashed and the road had to be closed.

Police on the the scene at the moment have refused to comment about the situation.
