Power outages becoming a norm

Areas such as Scottburgh, Park Rynie and Pennington have always experienced power problems in terms of delayed power restoration after the scheduled loadshedding times and/or power outages lasting hours and sometimes days.

With the infamous loadshedding back after the festive period, one would think that the situation could not get any worse. For residents in the mid-South Coast area, it has.

Areas such as Scottburgh, Park Rynie and Pennington have always experienced power problems in terms of delayed power restoration after the scheduled loadshedding times and/or power outages lasting hours and sometimes days.

The towns experienced a power outage last Friday, which was different from the rest. Electricity went out for a short period compared to previous times, but after it was restored, locals experienced very low voltage.
It was a blistering day and fans barely worked, aircons refused to turn on, microwaves didn’t work and even fridge bulbs had little to no life in them.

It turned out that after power restoration that day, an electric cable had become loose on a specific line which caused a major inconvenience for hours on the day.

The next day, things seemed to be getting back to normal in these areas, but in Umzinto this wasn’t the case. Residents specifically in Gandhinagar dealt with a power outage throughout the day, only to have their power restored a day later.

Although this is becoming a norm in the area, it’s still frustrating for many, especially when faced with hot and humid conditions.

As previously reported, should you experience a power outage, ensure that you log the fault with Eskom. It also helps to keep in touch with your local councillor.

Eskom stated that areas experiencing major outages can usually find media statements/updates on social media.
