R61 crash: One critically injured person airlifted to hospital

Emergency workers spent close to two-and-a-half hours on the crash scene on the R61 near Shelly Beach earlier this morning (09.00).
The road was closed while emergency services worked to help those injured in the crash, which involved two vehicles.

Four people were transported to local hospitals, while a Netcare 911 helicopter made an emergency landing on the highway to airlift a seriously injured patient to hospital.
Rudi Prinsloo from Mi7 said it was a ‘real team effort’ by all emergency workers on the accident scene.

Paramedics from emergency services: Med-Evac, Mi7, Netcare 911, EMRS with members from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s Fire Department and Law Enforcement and K9 Search and Rescue and Saps – worked hard to secure the scene and assist the injured.
“The man, who was flown by helicopter, was entrapped in his vehicle and had to freed by using the jaws of life,” said Prinsloo.
