Potholed roads need urgent attention

Two roads which have been reported to RNM and DoT are D440 (behind Dezzi Raceway) and Knox Gore Road (from St Mike's beach traffic lights to the Gamalakhe traffic lights).

Many roads on the South Coast are pothole-ridden, and residents have had no response to their complaints to Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) and the Department of Transport (DoT).

The recent rains have worsened matters as the potholes have turned into craters, making it difficult for motorists to avoid.

Ward councillors have also reported the poor condition of some roads and with the ongoing rehabilitation of Marine Drive, they have been told no funds are available to fix them.

Two roads which have been reported to RNM and DoT are D440 (behind Dezzi Raceway) and Knox Gore Road (from St Mike’s beach traffic lights to the Gamalakhe traffic lights).
RNM spokesperson, Simon April said both roads fall under DoT.

He said complaints regarding the state of the D440 will be forwarded to the DoT district manager and that Knox Gore has already been reported.

According to information received, plans are in place to fill the potholes on the D440 with rubble from Marine Drive, however since government departments have only recently resumed work an implementation timeline was not forthcoming.
