Kavady festival starts next week

All kavady bookings will be open to devotees from flag hoisting day on Tuesday, January 16.

The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Temple will host its annual Thai Poosam Kavady festival from Tuesday, January 16 to Sunday, January 28.

A flag hoisting takes place on Tuesday, January 16 with hawan at 17:30. Daily obayams will start at 18:00, on Saturday at 15:00 and Sunday at 18:00.

The temple’s chariot will proceed through the districts of Port Shepstone on Sunday, January 21 from 09:00. All kavady bookings will be open to devotees from flag hoisting day.

Thai Poosam Kavady is on Thursday, January 25 from 12:00 and the public kavady is on Sunday, January 28 with hawan starting at 05:30.

All devotees who wish to participate in the daily obayams are requested to contact any of the executive members of the temple. Supper and prasad will be served daily. All are welcome.
