Teenage swimmer goes missing at Mtwalume beach

Police Search and Rescue are continuing in an ongoing search.

A 15 year old boy went missing in the surf line while swimming at Mtwalume beach yesterday (January 11).

NSRI Shelly Beach crew was requested to assist Police Search and Rescue.

An NSRI Shelly Beach rescue craft JetRib, Rescue 20 Bravo, was towed to the scene with NSRI Shelly Beach rescue swimmers.

NSRI Durban and NSRI Rocky Bay were placed on alert.

On arrival on the scene the SA Police Services, Police Search and Rescue and Mi7 Ambulance Services were in attendance conducting a search operation.

Gary Wolmerans, NSRI Shelly Beach station commander, said their NSRI rescue craft launched and joined in the sea and shoreline search for the teenager.

“Despite an extensive search there remains no sign of the missing teenager.”

Police Search and Rescue are continuing in an ongoing search.

Thoughts are with the family of the missing teenager in this difficult time.

The family is in the care of police.
