The construction of the R550-million Port Shepstone Intermodal Facility is well underway and is expected to be completed in October 2024.
The project in the Port Shepstone CBD includes 203 taxi bays on the lower level of the shopping centre, 221 long term taxi parking bays, 10 bus parking bays, 470 centre parking bays, 25 tenant parking bays, 16 off-street parking bays and 15 loading bays.
It will also allow 90 informal traders to ply their trade.
Another project, Main Harding Road from Marburg to Umbango bridge in Port Shepstone is also on the go.
A R54 million tender was awarded to a construction company in 2022 to upgrade the road, however they failed, and Ray Nkonyeni Municipality had to appoint a new company.
This project is now expected to be completed in February 2024.
While construction is underway, motorists can use Main Harding Road from Marburg to town or other alternative routes.
The spokesperson for the municipality, Simon April urged road users to be patient with each other and to drive safely.
